    The holiday home permit (Dubai)

    Holiday Home Permit · DET

    What it requires

    In Dubai, every unit let as a holiday home holds an annual permit from the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), in the deluxe or standard category. The permit number appears in every advertisement, in print or online.

    The same act requires guest records kept for at least 3 years, a contract with the guest and a contact available 24/7.

    The Tourism Dirham fee

    Tourism Dirham

    What it requires

    Per room and per night, for up to 30 nights: AED 15 for deluxe holiday homes, AED 10 for standard ones. It appears on the guest’s invoice, with its amount, and is paid to DET before the 16th of the following month.

    On 21 May 2026, the Government of Dubai announced that holiday homes are exempt from collecting the Tourism Dirham and from permit fees, phased in over 3 to 12 months on a timetable set by DET. Check with DET whether the fee is still collected.

    5% VAT

    What it requires

    Registration with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) is mandatory from the AED 375,000 threshold; the VAT rate is 5%.

Are the rules the same in Abu Dhabi?

No. In Abu Dhabi, holiday homes hold their own licence, from the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT), and the tourism fee has its own rules. This page covers the Dubai rules.
